What does SPF (x) on sunblock bottles mean?
Key step to understanding just how much sun protection you need
Apart from knowing that the higher the digits, the more sun protection you’re getting, SPF actually means Sun Protection Factor. This also means that the more protection you’re getting, the longer you can stay out in the sun. The theory is this:
The amount of minutes for your skin to burn x The SPF number on the sunscreen = ___ minutes you can stay out in the sun.
One thing to take careful note is to always reapply your sunblock in generous amounts. Don’t forget to apply your sunblock at least 20-30 minutes before sun exposure. While you should take note of the theory, remember that it's only JUST a theory. You must take other precautions to protect yourself from harmful UV rays.
