Trend spotting: Statement lips

Deep, rusty orange, feisty red and hot pink - its the three hottest shades you should be kissing the boys with this season.

Scarlet fever: working red lips

First, determine which shade of red you are. If your skin has pinkish under tones, use shades of red with a pink base. If your skin leans toward a warmer, yellow tone, you will best suit a red with a golden or tawny base. Berry tones (plum, raspberry and cherry) work brilliantly with Asian skin.

Keep foundation light and flawless, even avoiding blusher if you can get away with it. You don't have to keep skin flat: a dewy look is actually much more wearable.

Citrus crush: bright orange lips

Orange lipstick works best on golden and olive complexions, so if you're a lighter shade of pale, warm up your complexion with bronzer.

For a fool-proof look, opt for ones that aren't too matt and offer a satiny finish, or a bit of shine.

If you wear an eye colour, stick to neutral beiges, tawny browns and pale golds.

Princess peach: join the pink posse

Don't use a lip liner when wearing pink lipstick. You don't want an overly finished look, and the rimless effect will also make your lips appear more youthful.

Don't match pink lippie with a pink outfit. You're not barbie.
