Four Basic Dating Rules

If you’re seeing more than one person at a time, be it physical or not, use these simple rules to get things on track.

Dating Rules

The two of you have been meeting up over lunch, dinner and at times breakfast after a good steamy night together. You are not exclusive, and have never talked about what is the status of this amazing thing you have shared. At the back of your mind, you’re bothered by your conscience as you’re having the same routine with another man.

Is it wrong to be dating more than one person at a time, even if the two of you are not exclusive? Dating may be fun but it’s tricky as hell. There’s a reason why rules and guidebooks (and articles!) are unwritten, and that’s simply because there are way too many of them! Oft times we find dating falls within that grey area, and one of the questions usually asked is... should you be seeing more than one person at a time?

Firstly, know and accept the differences between dating a person and having a relationship with them. When you date, you are supposed to 'test the waters', so to speak. We don’t know what we’re in for and that’s the very reason why we date. Apart from that, we do it to have fun and see if both personalities match. It is a time to discover what we’re like and vice versa.

Secondly, a rule of thumb - let him know that you’re seeing someone else before you go for your first date. If it’s a little too late, do not take it as an excuse to continue doing this charade you might be playing. Things can go awry if the both of you start to take off and start developing strong feelings for each other.

Next, take it easy if he tells you the same thing. It’s natural to be jealous although you are doing the same thing, but be mature about it and take it the way you would want him to take your news. Nobody likes a cry baby, right?

Lastly, if things start to blossom romantically, call it quits with all the other people you’re seeing at the time. This is because prolonged contact with ‘the others’ can turn into cheating, the worst crime possible in a relationship. If you miss singlehood and want to mingle with men again, you might want to think twice about starting a relationship. Don’t ever let these little things trace your relationship, or they may cause problems that you didn’t need in the first place.

Dating may be a game for all, but don’t be nasty player or it'll be a game where no one wins. Most importantly, don’t forget to have fun!
