We all find humour in the strangest places and sometimes, we take pleasure at other's misfortune, even if it's some silly and self-indulgent practical joke.
Studies done on the brain point towards the brain centres that ‘light up’ when we experience enjoyment, delight and satisfaction. The same area also light up when we act to commit, or even think about, revenge. These studies imply we in fact experience satisfaction when we punish others in some way, whether mentally, physically, emotionally or psychologically, for what we individually believe to be their bad, wrong or otherwise harmful behavior. We may not be proud of ourselves when we look back, but for the moment, that glorious moment, we are proud. Very proud. And sometimes we just have to dish out overdue revenge (after what some people have done to us).
