Mandara Spa, Prince Hotel Kuala Lumpur
Located on the 10th floor of the Prince Hotel, Mandara Spa is decked in simple Balinese furnishings, peppered with other Eastern influences.
We were recommended the Harmony package (RM355 per person). It was to include a foot bath, choice of body scrub, herbal steam or floral bath, a tea ceremony and finally, the choice of either a facial or Balinese massage. Once we'd decided on our scrubs and oils for the treatment, all of which had been imported from Bali, we were ready to go.
The couples rooms here were very spacious, doubling up on most of the amenities like the sinks, seats for the foot bath and massage tables. And, to enhance the romantic ambience of sharing this moment with a loved one, the ceiling had been dotted with twinkling lights so it seemed like we were staring up into a clear, starry night.
To start, we had a foot bath, followed by the body scrub. I opted for a gentle coconut exfoliant. My man went for the coffee scrub, slightly rougher, but he loved it! "Not only was the smell excellent, but I felt so clean after," he said. Then, it was a simple bath for myself and a herbal steam for him. Ever the critic, he felt that while the steam itself did the job it was supposed to, more effort could have been put into the decor of the room to entice a deeper state of relaxation.
By the time we climbed onto the beds for our massages, we were primed and ready for the healing hands of our therapists. As they worked their magic and we were lulled into complete relaxation, time seemed to pass all too quickly. It was by far, one of the best massages I had ever had.
The only critique I have is that they should perhaps consider a more extensive music playlist. While no doubt calming, hearing the same tune on a loop for two hours will get on anyone's nerves!
