After their trip to Dunedin, the young royals will fly to Queenstown. There they will visit the Amisfield vineyard and sample local wines (no doubt including the pinot noir for which the area is famed) and artisan food. Then it’s time for more high-speed thrills, as the duke and duchess enjoy a white-water rafting ride through the canyons of the Shotover river.

More to see: New Zealand has been a mecca for thrill-seekers for years, and nowhere delivers an adrenaline-rush quite like Queenstown. But if you’d rather take things more slowly, there are plenty of things to see and do in the beautiful Central Otago scenery that don’t involve hurtling along at 50mph. Tour the dramatic mountains and beautiful lakes by car, bike or horse, relax in a Japanese-style hot pool or visit world-class wineries and gold mines.
